Transition Lake County: Building Resilient Community

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Transition Lake County's new community website -- an online portal for working together to build tribe and get our needs met locally here in beautiful Lake County, California!

Transition Lake County (TLC) is a movement -- a living and evolving network of human beings sharing in the co-creation of a healthier, happier, more resilient community and local economy. We are transforming our reality in community -- transitioning our local world into something that is more sustainable, more durable, more connected and joyful.

We are part of a global movement of Transition Towns, where local people are working together to build durable communities capable of responding to the challenges of ecological destruction, climate change, peak oil, and social, psychological and economic insecurity. This movement is organically self-organizing: Life is acting to save itself, and as new ways of being are coming into play we all face challenges of co-evolving new systems to engage life enjoyably and ecologically. When we let transitions work simultaneously within us and outside of us, as part of Life’s dance, we have nothing to worry about, and much to celebrate right now. We also have much look forward to, both for ourselves and succeeding generations.

TLC supports this grassroots movement of local resilience by educating, inspiring, and linking together the diverse wisdom and genius in our community. Through this raising of our relational consciousness, we facilitate healthier interactions, build inner and outer resilience, and co-create a society in which we meet each other’s needs in cooperation with the natural world.

Year 2012 Values and Principles

1. Positive Visioning - We practice connecting from our place of appreciation and enthusiasm. What is your vision? What do you want to co-create? What is alive for you?
2. Help People Access Good Information and Trust Them to Make Good Decisions - We believe inquiry into the processes of economic and ecological change helps unite us. How do we grow the wisdom to know what works for us and determine how to get there? We trust wholistic process.
3. Inclusion and OpennessAs we can, we reach and enliven our diverse community with openness, inclusion and collaboration. We welcome curiosity, passion or a desire to contribute.
4. Enable Sharing and NetworkingTogether, our community possesses the ability to match resources to needs, helping us all to help each other freely and fairly.
5. Build ResilienceWe co-design sustainable, harmonious natural systems. We celebrate sensible re-skilling in survival skills to enjoyably heal our atmosphere.
6. Inner and Outer TransitionThe challenges we face involve our worldviews, belief systems, feelings, needs, and obsolete survival strategies. We consciously support one another emotionally, psychologically and spiritually in caring, eco-sensitive and synergic change.
7. Self-Organization and Decision-Making at the Appropriate LevelThis movement is mostly self-organizing and organic. Responsibly and responsively participate as you feel best for you.
8. Sustainable Community SkillsWe value transparency, compassionate communication, consensus building, and empathic facilitation. TLC transitioners do not pass along gossip or polarizing prejudicial thinking. We look for the good in each other.
9. Harmony with NatureWe keep listening lovingly to the land, plants, animals, and each other, and we respond considerately and gently. We celebrate the Earth.
10. IntegrityWholistic health, honesty, fairness and accountability work together for peace and happiness.
11. Stewardship and InterdependenceWe honor quality of life, interrelationship, and all transitions, with respectful freely-chosen cooperation.
12. Regular Revision of These Imperfect PrinciplesWe annually review our stated values and principles, by full consensus of the TLC core group meeting in January’s. We attend to living emerging change patterns and we address them as deeper transition unfolds and regenerates.
