Transition Lake County: Building Resilient CommunitySunset over sacred Mount Konicti and beautiful Clear Lake
Transition Lake County (TLC) is a movement, a living and evolving network of human beings sharing in the co-creation of a healthier, happier, more resilient community and local economy. We are transforming our reality in together -- transitioning our local world into something that is more sustainable, more durable, more connected and joyful.
We are part of a global movement of "Transition Towns," in which local people are working together to build durable communities capable of responding to the challenges of ecological destruction, climate change, peak oil, and social, psychological and economic insecurity. This movement is organically self-organizing: Life is acting to save itself, and as new ways of being are coming into play we all face challenges of co-evolving new systems to engage life enjoyably and ecologically. When we consciously engage this transition as part of Life’s dance, we have nothing to worry about, and we find much to celebrate right now in the present moment. We also discover that have much look forward to, both for ourselves and succeeding generations.
Working Groups - The Essence of TransitionBelow is an ever-expanding index of individuals and organizations (or "working groups") that already exist in service to our local community, in areas like Local Food & Water, Local Energy, Clear Lake & Environment, and more. For more detailed descriptions of these organizations, visit the Working Groups page and follow the links. If you'd like to get involved in the process of collecting and sharing these resources, see Community Mapping.
Year 2013 TLC Values and Principles1. Positive Visioning - We practice connecting from our place of appreciation and enthusiasm. What is your vision? What do you want to co-create? What is alive for you?
2. Help People Access Good Information and Trust Them to Make Good Decisions - We believe inquiry into the processes of economic and ecological change helps unite us. How do we grow the wisdom to know what works for us and determine how to get there? We trust wholistic process. 3. Inclusion and OpennessAs we can, we reach and enliven our diverse community with openness, inclusion and collaboration. We welcome curiosity, passion or a desire to contribute. 4. Enable Sharing and NetworkingTogether, our community possesses the ability to match resources to needs, helping us all to help each other freely and fairly. 5. Build ResilienceWe co-design sustainable, harmonious natural systems. We celebrate sensible re-skilling in survival skills to enjoyably heal our atmosphere. 6. Inner and Outer TransitionThe challenges we face involve our worldviews, belief systems, feelings, needs, and obsolete survival strategies. We consciously support one another emotionally, psychologically and spiritually in caring, eco-sensitive and synergic change. 7. Self-Organization and Decision-Making at the Appropriate LevelThis movement is mostly self-organizing and organic. Responsibly and responsively participate as you feel best for you. 8. Harmony with NatureWe keep listening lovingly to the land, plants, animals, and each other, and we respond considerately and gently. We celebrate the Earth. 10. IntegrityWholistic health, honesty, fairness and accountability work together for peace and happiness. 11.
